Words from our director

The department of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics is a key component of the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (Cnam) in the field of engineering sciences and technology. It brings together 41 professors, associate professors and researchers who are deeply involved in higher education, applied research, and innovation. These instructors/ lecturers are affiliated with four recognized research laboratories: CEDRIC, ESYCOM, LCM-LNE, and SATIE.

The theoretical and applied training programs provided by our department spans multiple research and development areas, including energy, optics, robotics, electronics, and sensors… These teachings are applied across various industrial sectors such as automobile, aerospace, railway transport, medicine, and both civilian and military telecommunications systems.

Our department also benefits from the support of 18 administrative and technical staff, who actively contribute to the smooth running of the courses, educational infrastructure, and research projects.

The department is organized into four thematic hubs covering the following fields of expertise: Electronics/ Automation, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation - Measurements, and Radiation Protection/ Physics. This structural organization enables us to address major technological challenges in a cross-disciplinary and integrated way, in favor of the blending of skills. Our department is fully committed to research-based education and lifelong learning, closely linked with the evolving needs of industry and society.

True to CNAM's mission of combining theory and practice, our department places great emphasis on experienced learning. At the teaching center in Paris, the department relies on substantially technical facilities, divided between the Cnam Paris and Cnam Landy campuses. These include: 11 practical work rooms equipped for electronics, electrical engineering, automation, metrology, and physical measurements; one shared workshop for assembly, experimentation, and engineering projects; and one academic studio for recording and broadcasting multimedia contents for hybrid or remote teaching. These facilities allow learners to gain hands-on experience with professional tools, specialized software, and complex systems, in line with the constant evolution of industrial technologies.

Our department offers a rich and diverse training portfolio adapted to a wide public (students, employees, apprentices, job seekers), both nationally and internationally. The training programs include over 60 degrees and certifications structured across various qualification levels: 4 outside working hour engineering programs, 12 apprenticeship-based engineering programs, 5 general bachelor’s degrees and 5 professional bachelor’s degrees, 2 university degrees in science and technology available via outside working hour or apprenticeship formats, 1 international master’s degree ranked 5th in its field by Eduniversal 2023–2025, 2 research master’s programs linked to the CEDRIC and ESYCOM laboratories, 2 specialized master’s degrees certified by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles focused on strategic industrial challenges, and 8 professional competency blocks eligible for CPF (Compte Personnel de Formation, France’s personal training account system).

Our department develops partnerships with numerous academic and industrial players in France and abroad. It participates in several collaborative projects (ANR, European, PEPR,..), allowing it to remain at the forefront of academic and scientific innovation.
